Dan is a member of WordPress royalty. His company, Instinct Entertainment, has been building WordPress Plugins & providing custom WordPress development since, well, since the dawn of the ‘Press. Instinct’s flagship plugin, the hugely popular WP e-Commerce plugin, even has a download count double the population of the Gold Coast!

Dan has attended and spoken at WordCamps all over the world. At WordCamp Gold Coast, he’ll present on how to facilitate and build an Open Source community. A subject core to WordPress and a topic he knows a thing or two about, with tens of thousands in the community around Instinct’s plugins.

I asked Dan a few questions about his presentation and his love of WordCamps.

Through his superhero alter ego, Web Coder, Stew has wrangled the wild business of freelancing to the point where in the last month, he brought in just over half of the entire previous financial year’s income.

That’s why we’ve teed Stew up to present Freelancing FTW! at WordCamp Gold Coast.

Through his presentation, Stew will divulge the wild adventures of his freelance journey and unveil his mission to make web development sexy.

I had a quick chat to Stew about his story, playing hard to get and why he thinks web development is so hot right now.

Logo Design Competition!

We’ll be continuously looking for ways to involve the local community throughout this adventure of organising a WordCamp. The first chance that you’ve got to get involved is here – we need a logo!

We haven’t come up with anything that we love yet, so we’ve decided to throw it over to you to see what you can come up with.

The competition will close on July 24th.

Announcing WordCamp Gold Coast 2011!

It’s that time of year again – Winter is here. As the cold sets in, the dream of lying on a hot sandy beach seems so far away… the warm sand between your toes, the warm sun on your back, and water (at a temperature you can swim in!)

The dream sounds nice doesn’t it? That’s why we’ve organised the perfect excuse for a summer sojourn to the beach.

That’s right folks, this summer the Gold Coast is playing host to it’s very own WordCamp!

When? November 5th and 6th, Where? The Gold Coast! Oh, Venue? WordCamp Gold Coast will be held at Bond University, Check out the Venue Page for more details.

We’re planning 2 full days of WordPress’ing fun. Come rub-shoulders with Queensland’s finest WordPress users, developers, designers, and bloggers!

We’ll be putting out a call for speakers in due course, however, if you, or someone you know who would be interested in speaking,  you can get in contact with us right away. 🙂
